WILLIAM MOORE BRUMMITT B.A. UBC, M.D. U of T. FRCPC [ANAESTHESIOLOGY]
June 15 1927 - April 26 2016

Bill was born in Mission in the Fraser Valley and spent his early childhood in Northern B.C. where his father was a GP surgeon. Much of his early life was spent outdoors, accounting for his lifelong love of nature and independent out of doors activities.
He attended high school in Nelson and for four years travelled the Kettle Valley Railway to Vancouver obtain a double major in Arts and Sciences at UBC, followed by his M.D. degree at the UofT in 1952. After a long distance courtship he married Lois McRae of Mission in 1950. After two years of postgraduate training in Vancouver they moved to Powell River to a group general practice, much oriented to anaesthesia.
He later qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians [Anaeshesia] and spent the last thirty years of professional life on staff at the Hospital for Sick Children, serving also as a clinical Associate Professor at the UofT. He was medical advisor to The Lifesaving Society of Canada and The Canadian Lifeguard Training Program for 10 years, and volunteered with the surgical group Interplast in Central and South America. He represented a number of Canadian organizations at the 1972 NIH Conference in Washington DC, which led to the international manual on CPR and its early introduction to Ontario. As a result he became an enthusiastic promoter of volunteerism.
He is survived by Lois [McRae] his wife and loving companion of 65 years, by his four children Barbara, Heather (Peter), Jeanie (Ian) and Bill Jr. (Wanda), seven grandchildren, two great grandsons, (and imminently two great granddaughters). He was predeceased by his paediatrician brother John [Joan].
Bill retired to Prince Edward County and the Bay of Quinte where he reveled in dingy sailing, and later less vigorous boating, much gardening, birding and involvement with local communities in music, Probus clubs, and the local library.
Acutely aware of world events, he was convinced that he and his Lois lived in the best of times, the best of places, the best of countries, and despite some later infirmities, the best of retirements.

In remembrance of Bill, family and friends are welcome to a Memorial Gathering at the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club, Sunday May 8th, 2016 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. with Remembrances at 1 p.m. Heartfelt thanks to the many friends and healthcare workers who were there for Bill over the past year.
Those wishing to mark Bill's passing could consider a donation to Doctors Without Borders, Music at Port Milford Scholarship Fund or St. Thomas Anglican Church Building Fund. Arrangements entrusted to BURKE FUNERAL HOME (613-968-6968). Online condolences at burkefuneral.ca
